Two Thirds Merlot 2015
85 Points – The Wine Front, Campbell Mattinson
“Two Thirds” refers to the alcohol content of the wine. This is only 9.5% alcohol, or about two thirds of ‘normal’ red wine alcohol strength. It’s light, berried and sweet. It’s also soft as it floats through the mouth. If you’re looking for substance, of course, look away. But if you’re looking for something easy to drink that will also keep the effect of alcohol down, then this might be a decent option. Folks who also suffer from Red Wine Headache might wish to dabble here; it might work.’
Demand for the popular Trentham Two Thirds white prompted the winemaking team to create a Two Thirds red wine with great flavour yet low in alcohol. Vibrant red and purple in colour and full of flavour with generous berry fruit flavours and a touch of spice. The wine is light in tannin making it soft, mellow and very easy to drink. This is a perfect lunch wine to enjoy with a wide variety of foods, especially duck and lamb dishes.
